چکیده
Methods to improve the fracture toughness and strength of glassy materials are increasingly important for a variety applications that remain limited by restrictions brittleness surface defect propensity. Here, we report on enhancement glass mechanical performance through combination tailored chemistry irradiation post-treatment. Specifically, show both experiments atomistic simulations (crack) initiation resistance as well selected calcium aluminoborosilicate glasses can be significantly improved (by more than 400% in some cases) heavy ion irradiation. The process reorganizes borate subnetwork partial transformation tetrahedral trigonal boron units, which turn also modifies at longer lengths scales, such coarsening distribution loop structures. improvement crack formation growth is ascribed modification medium-range structure less rigid network upon with coordination defects act local reservoirs plasticity allowing bond switching activities dissipate energy deformation. This work therefore highlights new pathway develop damage-resistant materials.

Microcapsule induced toughening in a self-healing polymer composite
Microencapsulated dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) healing agent and Grubbs’ Ru catalyst are incorporated into an epoxy matrix to produce a polymer composite capable of self-healing. The fracture toughness and healing efficiency of this composite are measured using a tapered double-cantilever beam (TDCB) specimen. Both the virgin and healed fracture toughness depend strongly on the size and concentrati...

Proton-induced absorption over the 280-700-nm region and growth of that coloring with increasing dosage of proton radiation were determined for three Schott glasses used as focusing elements in the International Ultraviolet Explorer. It was found that the absorption spectra for each glass can be fitted with three Gaussian shaped bands in the near UV-visible range, while a fourth Gaussian charac...

متن کاملANTICONVULSANT THERAPY-INDUCED ALTERATIONS IN CALCIUM HOMEOSTASIS
35 epileptic patients, aged 10 to 58 years (mean 23), who were taking anticonvulsant drugs were studied. The patients exhibited a 34% reduction in serum calcium levels, a 41 % increase in serum alkaline phosphatase activity and a slight but insignificant decrease in serum phosphate, compared to untreated controls. These changes appear to be related to the anticonvulsant drug taken, in the ...
